Lecarrow CNS Admissions Notice for 2024-2025

Tracy Kilgannon- Principal

Lecarrow CNS is a state, co-educational, multi-denominational school under the patronage of Galway Roscommon Education and Training Board (GRETB). Lecarrow CNS opened its doors in 2019 and offers an innovative and vibrant learning environment for children of all ages. Our school caters for all children from Junior Infants to 6th Class and as a developing school we continue to accept enrolments across all classes. We are located about a 15-minute drive from both Roscommon Town and Athlone and are served by buses from both the Athlone and Roscommon Town areas, the latter covering areas north of Roscommon Town also.

Lecarrow is a vibrant rural village in the south of Roscommon seeped in history from stone age burial sites, holy wells, castles and harbours to an enchanting natural environment that includes one of Ireland’s largest surviving ancient woodlands – St John’s Wood and of course the beautiful Lough Ree which we are lucky enough to be able to see from our school grounds. We can see many of these areas represented in our school logo which was designed by the children of Lecarrow CNS. Our school is located on a quiet local road 1km from Lecarrow village and harbour which we visit at intervals throughout the year on our nature walks. Our proximity to such sites and habitat locations, and relationships with the local landowners and community, enhances and provides unique learning opportunities for our children.

As a Community National School we follow the national curriculum and are guided by the core values of ETBI – Excellence in Education, Care, Equality, Community and Respect. It is the policy and practice of Community National Schools to recognise and celebrate the uniqueness of each child and to instil a deep sense of belonging, empathy and respect of others through our patrons curriculum – Goodness Me Goodness You.

We are very lucky to have a highly dedicated, hard-working and creative staff in Lecarrow CNS who have built a learning environment based on play, fun, kindness and learning from the environment and who continue to look for new, inclusive and innovative ways to bring out the very best in the children at our school and ensure they all have equal opportunities to succeed. This is further enhanced by our strong relationships and communication with parents and the wider community whom we welcome to share their knowledge and skills with us in Lecarrow CNS.

Our wish for every child in Lecarrow CNS is that they grow into active citizens in society and see themselves as active participants in their learning journey, thus enabling them to experience productive and fulfilled lives. Our hope is that the children depart our school with lifelong friendships and the happiest memories of their time with us.
