Welcome to Lecarrow CNS

Lecarrow Community National School is a state, co-educational, multi-denominational school under the patronage of Galway Roscommon Education and Training Board. It opened its doors in 2019 and offers an innovative and vibrant learning environment for pupils of all ages. Our school caters for all children from Junior infants up to graduation from Lecarrow CNS in 6th class.

Lecarrow is a vibrant rural village in the south of Roscommon and the school is located on a fabulous quiet local road. Having grown up in the community it fills me with tremendous pride to welcome all members of our communities through our doors on a daily basis.

As a school we are very lucky to have a highly dedicated, hard working and creative staff in Lecarrow CNS who create a learnig enviroment based on play, fun and learning from the environment.

Here in Lecarrow we aim to offer educational opportunity not only for our pupils but also for our wider school community. We run an Irish Language evening (Club Comhrá) and are looking at adding to the evening activities for our parents, families and wider school community to get involved in.

My hope as Principal of Lecarrow C.N.S. is that all of the children in our school come to school every morning and leave every evening with a smile on their face. I am a strong believer that for a child (or adult) to successfully learn a new skill they must be interested in what they are learning. In Lecarrow C.N.S. we teach active lessons each day based on learning through play and this helps the children to learn but also keeps them smiling each day. When the time comes for our children to move to the next chapter of their education I hope each child will depart our school in 6th class with the skills to continue their education but also with life long friends and that they can look back on some of the happiest of memories of their time with us.

Congratulations to our 6th Class pupils, Jack, Sarah Jane and Ben on receiving their sacrament of Confirmation last Saturday at 3pm in Knockcroghery church. We are so proud of you all, and we hope you and your families enjoyed this special day. ...

Our Senior Classes, as part of their heritage trip, visited St John's Wood and Judy's Harbour on their bicycles. Taking such trips by bike is one of the wondeful privileges of living in such a beautiful and historically rich area. St. John’s Wood in Roscommon is one of Ireland’s largest surviving ancient woodlands and covers over 260 acres. It is believed that St. John’s Wood is one of Ireland’s few primary ancient woodlands, meaning it has never been fully cleared so that there has been woodland consistently on this site since the last Ice Age. Incredible! Of course, a trip like this could not be complete without stopping to admire a traditional thatched cottage and feeding some of our local ponies and donkeys (with full owner permission and suitable food provided!), and a picnic - complete with a 'Class of 2021' cake to celebrate the upcoming 6th class graduation and end of year celebrations ❤ ...
